Jamestown RI Community Chorus

Great Choral Singing Since 1949

Why Do We Sing?

Members of the JCC have been sharing their answers to the question “Why Do We Sing?” Over the next few weeks we will share those thoughts. In our first installment, alto section member Kathy shares her essay:

“Why do I sing? I sing because I love discovering and sharing good stories.  People across time, distance, and language have felt strongly enough about their stories to put pen to paper or share, aurally, with others, many crafting with brilliance, punctuating thoughts through modality and rhythm.  My life is rich because of the faithfulness of these people to tell their stories worth billions of words.  I want to understand them deeply, experience them fully, and express them freely.”

Choral Arts New England

Many thanks to Choral Arts New England for the emergency grant the chorus received to help pay for our wonderful 2020 Virtual Holiday Concert. CANE awarded twenty such grants to help with choral groups all over New England. Nearly sixty groups applied for the grant which connotes the value of choral singing in the larger community. We deeply appreciate their support.
