Jamestown RI Community Chorus

Great Choral Singing Since 1949

Shakespeare, et al

Our May concerts, “Brush Up Your Shakespeare,” will feature text from the Bards’ plays and one of his sonnets. In addition, however, we’ll sing some music with allusions to Will. “Ah Robyn, Gentle Robyn” by William Cornysh is a 15th century part-song that is mentioned in “Twelfth Night” which was written a full century later. The more modern pieces include “Something’s Coming” from West Side Story, “This Can’t Be Love” by Rodgers and Hart and, of course, “Brush Up Your Shakespeare” from Cole Porter’s Kiss Me Kate. And for something completely different, the audience will forego the singalong and will be asked to declaim the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet.
