The Chorus will celebrate spring with two concerts featuring chorus members’ favorite music. The concerts entitled “Our Favorites” will be performed Saturday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 1 at 3:00 p.m. Both are at the Jamestown Recreation Center, 41 Conanicus Avenue in Jamestown.
“In putting this concert together, I did something highly democratic,” said Music Director B.J. Whitehouse. “I asked chorus members to give me a short list of the favorite choral pieces they have sung with the JCC over the years. I was overwhelmed with the response. We whittled down their suggestions to a concert-sized list of their most beloved pieces.”
“I think our favorites are probably the favorites of most of our audience members as well,” he added.
The concert will include such choral favorites as Jerusalem, Dôme Épais, A Red, Red Rose and the gorgeous Oseh Shalom. Spirituals include Go down Moses, All My Trials, Bring Me Little Water, Silvy and the great Zulu African piece, Rain, Rain, Beautiful Rain . The religious section contains Prayer for Peace, written by JCC member William W. Karl, Hark I Hear the Harps Eternal and Hail Holy Queen from Sister Act. The concert concludes with modern Broadway music including The Music of the Night and Abba’s Take a Chance on Me.
Tickets are $15, $10 for seniors and children. To reserve yours call 423-1574 or go to jamestownchorus.com. Tickets are also available at Baker’s Pharmacy, Jamestown Hardware, and The Secret Garden.
